Attorney Austyn L. Carolin is based in our Maine Office. Her practice focuses on providing advice and counsel to clients on complex maritime issues including litigation, arbitration and insurance defense. Growing up in Coastal Maine she has always had a great love and respect for the maritime industry which prompted her to pursue a career in maritime law.

Prior to joining FSO, Austyn practiced at a prominent firm in Portland, Maine where she was a member of the trial services group and assisted in civil trial work, representing plaintiffs and defendants in various matters, including insurance defense, debt collection, and construction litigation.

Austyn also practiced for many years at a well-known maritime firm in Connecticut where she worked primarily with insurance companies and large international P&I clubs, participating in multi-district litigation for large cargo loss claims and working extensively on attaching assets in the United States for companies looking to collect unpaid debts. She was also in charge of all international sanctions work for shipping companies looking to do work in Iran, Venezuela and Cuba.

At Roger Williams University School of Law, Austyn was a member of the Admiralty Moot Court team and participated in the Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition as an oral advocate for two consecutive years. While earning her degree, she was a Sea Grant Law Fellow for the Rhode Island Sea Grant Law Fellows Program at Roger Williams University School of Law.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time in Boothbay Harbor, swimming, teaching community barre classes and walking her dog, Admiral, on the beach.
